Curate - Vanessa Parr

Vanessa joined St Catherine and St Paul as the Curate in June 2008, having completed her training in Bristol. Prior to being ordained, she worked for Crisis, the homelessness charity, and Christian Aid, as a fundraiser. Moving to Hoddesdon is a return to her Hertfordshire roots; born in Hitchin, she is enjoying discovering a new part of the county. She loves food, cooking, talking and films.

Reader - Reg Bailey

Reg has been a reader for a number of years in our parish. In his day job, he is the Chief Executive of the Mothers' Union (the first man to hold this position), and travels all over the Anglican communion in this role. He lives with his wife, Alison, in nearby Nazeing, and they have 2 grown up children, and one grandchild, Eddie, who is the apple of his grandfather's eye.

Reader -  Ann Edwards

Ann is 62, married to Burt, and has one stepdaughter and three granddaughters.  Following a lifetime in business, first as a Credit Manager, and later as the Compliance Officer for a Life Insurance company, Ann had to leave work at 50 following a serious and debilitating illness.

It was whilst convalescing that Ann felt called to train as a Reader, and she was licensed in 2003.  Since then, and until moving to Hoddesdon this January, Ann has had an active ministry in the combined parishes of Great Amwell with St Margaret's and Stanstead Abbots.  Having had  six months' rest  Ann is now ready for Reader ministry in Hoddesdon.

Children & Young Families' Worker - Julie Kates

Julie joined as our Children & Young Families Worker in July 2009. She grew up in Lancashire but has lived in St Albans since 1985. After many years working as a technical writer, Julie joined Hertfordshire Children Schools & Families in 2003. She has recently worked with Young Carers and completed training in play therapy. Julie is married to Francis; their two children, Jonathan and Libby, are at university. She enjoys reading novels, walking her dog and spending time with friends.
